Pakistan to Repay $2 Billion Loan to UAE This Month

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has decided to return $2 billion to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by the end of this month. The funds were held as a 'safe deposit' in Pakistan's central bank account, with Pakistan paying a 6% interest rate on the amount.

According to Ministry of Finance sources, while the UAE had traditionally rolled over this deposit on an annual basis, it had recently switched to shorter extensions of one to two months since December 2025.

Sources suggest that in light of the current international situation, the UAE requested an immediate repayment, prompting the Pakistani government to process the transaction.
