Pakistan: Markets and Malls to Close at 8 PM
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD - In a strategic move to tackle the energy crisis, the Federal Government has officially enforced a nationwide conservation plan, mandating the closure of markets and shopping malls by 8:00 PM.

Chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the high-level meeting finalized these austerity measures to reduce the national fuel import bill. The new schedule takes effect from April 7 across Punjab, KP, Balochistan, Islamabad, GB, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

Under the new directives, all commercial centers and departmental stores must shut down by 8 PM, with a one-hour extension granted specifically to divisional headquarters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. To minimize public inconvenience, essential services like bakeries and restaurants are permitted to operate until 10 PM, while pharmacies remain entirely exempt from these restrictions.

Furthermore, the government has imposed a strict 10 PM deadline for wedding ceremonies at marriage halls and private residences. During the session, officials noted that consultations with the Sindh government are ongoing to align their commercial hours with the national policy.

Simultaneously, the Prime Minister was briefed on the successful distribution of petroleum subsidies via digital wallets, which has already crossed the milestone of 100,000 transactions.
