KP Govt OKs New University and Massive Austerity Measures

PESHAWAR - Chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the 50th provincial cabinet meeting was held via video link as part of a strict austerity drive.

The cabinet approved a massive 32-point agenda, including the establishment of the University of Applied and Modern Sciences in the merged districts.

Key decisions included the elimination of 55 vacant posts at the Agriculture University to save Rs. 9 million monthly and a voluntary two-day salary deduction for Grade-20 and above officers. In the health sector, 598 nursing posts were created, and grants were approved for the Fatimid Foundation and Timergara Medical College.

The cabinet also allocated Rs. 450 million to transform 70 schools into 'Centers of Excellence' through Matric-Tech and Inter-Tech programs. Additionally, funds were released for border relief in Lower Chitral and monsoon.
