China, Russia Veto UN Resolution on Strait of Hormuz

GENEVA - China and Russia have officially vetoed a Bahrain-led resolution in the UN Security Council aimed at forcefully reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

While 11 members voted in favor of the move, the permanent members China, Russia, and France opposed the draft, effectively blocking any international military or strategic intervention to clear the strategic waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz has remained closed since February 28, following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that such resolutions only complicate the geopolitical crisis.

He emphasized that regional stability cannot be achieved through forced international mandates but requires diplomatic engagement.
