ISLAMABAD - The federal government has announced a massive increase of Rs55 per litre in the petroleum levy, pushing it from Rs106 to a record high of Rs160.61 per litre.

According to sources, following stringent IMF conditions, all subsidies previously granted on petrol and diesel have been completely withdrawn. The subsidy of Rs203 per litre on diesel and Rs95 per litre on petrol has been abolished, shifting the entire financial burden onto consumers. The government aims to collect Rs1,468 billion in non-tax revenue through the petroleum levy during the current fiscal year.
