Saharan Red Dust Storm Moves Toward Egypt and Libya

CAIRO - After engulfing the Greek island of Crete, a massive Saharan dust storm is now moving toward Egypt and Libya, turning skies into a dramatic reddish-orange hue.

Known scientifically as "Saharan Dust," this phenomenon occurs when fine sand particles from the Sahara Desert are carried across thousands of kilometers by strong atmospheric winds.

The storm has significantly impacted air quality, posing health risks for individuals with respiratory conditions such as asthma.

Authorities in the region have issued warnings regarding poor visibility and increased pollution levels. While such dust events are seasonal, the current intensity is unusual, causing the sky to appear alien-like and reaching as far as parts of Southern Europe.
