Iran Denies Rejecting Islamabad for Peace Talks
Abbas Araghchi Iran

TEHRAN - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has clarified that Iran never refused to visit Islamabad for negotiations, refuting recent claims made by Western media outlets. In a video message shared on social media, the Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to Pakistan for its mediation efforts and accused U.S. media of misrepresenting Iran’s official stance.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran remains appreciative of Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue. During the video, he notably raised the slogan "Pakistan Zindabad" (Long Live Pakistan) as a gesture of solidarity. He further stated that while Iran is committed to ending the "imposed and illegal war," the government remains concerned regarding the specific terms required for a final and lasting peace.

This clarification comes in response to a report published by The Washington Post, which claimed that Iran had formally declined to meet with U.S. officials in Islamabad. The report alleged that Tehran informed mediators of its refusal to engage with American representatives in the Pakistani capital, describing U.S. demands as "unacceptable."

The American media report further suggested that due to the perceived deadlock in Islamabad, mediators from Turkiye and Egypt were exploring alternative venues such as Doha, Qatar, or Istanbul, Turkiye. However, Foreign Minister Araghchi’s latest statement directly counters these claims, reaffirming Iran's respect for Islamabad as a diplomatic venue and dismissing the reports of a refusal as baseless propaganda.
