Rain Havoc Across Pakistan

LAHORE / Islamabad - Heavy rains and snowfall have wreaked havoc across various parts of Pakistan over the past few days, leaving at least 43 people dead and dozens injured. According to officials, a significant number of the casualties include children, as roof collapses and rain-related accidents continue to be reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Punjab.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) remains the hardest-hit province. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that since March 25, 30 people have lost their lives in the province due to collapsing structures triggered by the relentless storms. The victims include 20 children, five women, and five men. Additionally, 85 people, including 36 children, sustained injuries in various districts such as Peshawar, Bannu, Abbottabad, and North Waziristan.

The infrastructure damage in KP is also extensive, with 140 houses reported damaged—25 of which were completely destroyed. PDMA, Rescue 1122, and district administrations are currently conducting relief operations, providing tents, blankets, and essential supplies to the affected families while surveying the total financial loss.

In Balochistan, the situation remains grim as Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, and Qilla Saifullah experience a mix of heavy rain and snowfall. Recent incidents of roof collapses in Quetta and Zhob claimed two more lives, bringing the provincial death toll to nine. The extreme weather has also caused significant damage to crops and private property across six districts, severely impacting the local agriculture sector.

Meanwhile, in Punjab, windstorms and rain caused several casualties over the last 24 hours. In Lahore, two people died and 18 others were injured in various accidents. Similar fatalities were reported in Sargodha and Chiniot. The PDMA Punjab has issued a high alert, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from fragile structures, and follow government safety guidelines during the ongoing weather spell.
